Libby Kozak is sending her oldest daughter off to college in a few weeks. With another daughter in her junior year of high school, Libby is becoming experienced in the college planning process and has offered to write a series of blog posts from "A Mother's Perspective." As a client of The College Planning Group, here is Libby's first article:
Getting Ready to Let Her Leave the Nest
Like other mothers across the country I’m preparing to send my first-born off to college. I’m hoping that I’ve given her the lessons she needs to be successful. I’m trying to trust that she’s truly as savvy as I know she is and that she’ll figure out that she doesn’t know quite as much as she thinks she does. Most of all, I’m praying that the school she has chosen is in fact the right one for her. This we won’t know for weeks or months. Some kids are already heading off to college – I’ve seen their moms’ Facebook posts -- so I feel very fortunate that I have almost three weeks with her at home before we load up the car. Nevertheless, there are times when these last few weeks feel as highly charged as those leading up to the application deadlines. Just as much is at stake on both sides as responsibility for her future is yielded into her hands. I’ve known for almost 18 years that this day was coming. I’m still not quite ready.
